In one paragraph
SQEEZE stores your email, what you tell us about your exam, and your answers, because a revision engine that learns from your mistakes cannot work without them. Your data lives in the UK. We run no analytics and set no tracking cookies. You can delete your account, and everything attached to it, from your settings page at any time. Questions go to info@sqe-eze.co.uk.
Who we are
SQEEZE is a study platform for the Solicitors Qualifying Examination. For data protection purposes SQEEZE is the data controller for the information described here.
The fastest way to reach a person is info@sqe-eze.co.uk. We answer privacy questions ourselves rather than routing them through a form.
What we collect, and why
| What | Why |
|---|---|
| Email address | To create your account, sign you in, and send you the emails described below. It is the only thing we genuinely require. |
| Display name | So the app and our emails can address you properly. Optional; leave it blank and nothing breaks. |
| Target exam, the sitting you are aiming for, and your exam date | To build your revision plan, count down to the day and flag the law cut-off for your sitting. You choose these at onboarding and can change them in settings. |
| Whether English is your first language, and whether you are resitting | Both change how the material is presented and how we pace you. Optional, and used for nothing else. |
| Your answers, recall ratings and study sessions | This is the product. Every wrong answer becomes a rule in your Weakness Bank, which is how SQEEZE knows what to put in front of you next. |
| Bookmarks | So you can pin topics and find them again. |
| Messages you send us | Anything you put in the contact form, so we can reply and keep track of what was asked. |
| Waitlist email | Only if you ask to be told when SQE2 features open up. |
| Your name and email before the demo | So the demo can greet you and be shaped around your exam, and so we can follow up. This does not create an account and nothing you do in the demo is saved. |
We do not ask for your address, your date of birth, your university, or your payment card. We do not buy data about you from anyone.
Our legal basis
Under UK GDPR we rely on contract for anything needed to give you the service you signed up for: your account, your answers, and the emails that make the product work, such as confirming your address or resetting your password.
We rely on legitimate interests for keeping the service secure and working, and for replying when you contact us. If we ever want to send you marketing, we will ask for consent first, separately, and you will be able to withdraw it at any time.
Emails we send
There are only four, and none of them are marketing:
- Confirm your email, once, when you sign up.
- Welcome, once, when you first reach your dashboard.
- Sign-in and password reset links, only when you ask for them.
- A reply, if you write to us, plus an acknowledgement so you know it arrived.
Who else touches your data
We keep this list short on purpose. Each of these is a processor acting on our instructions, under contract, and none of them may use your data for their own purposes.
| Supabase | Our database and login system. Your account and revision history are stored in their London (eu-west-2) region, in the UK. |
| Resend | Sends our emails. Processes your email address and the contents of the message being sent, in the EU (eu-west-1). |
| Vercel | Hosts the website and serves the pages you are reading. |
How long we keep it
Your account and revision history stay until you delete your account. Progress data is only useful while you are studying, so there is no reason for us to hold it afterwards.
Contact messages are kept while we deal with them and for a reasonable period afterwards, so we have a record of what was asked and answered. The same goes for the name and email given before the demo. Ask us and we will delete either.
Your rights
Under UK GDPR you can ask us to:
- give you a copy of what we hold about you;
- correct anything wrong;
- delete your account and everything attached to it;
- restrict or object to how we use it;
- hand your data over in a portable format.
Deletion you can do yourself, immediately, from Settings in the app. It removes your account and cascades through your profile and your entire study history. It is not a soft delete and it cannot be undone. For anything else, email info@sqe-eze.co.uk and we will respond within one month.
If you are unhappy with how we have handled your data you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk. We would rather you told us first so we can put it right.
Age
SQEEZE is built for people qualifying as solicitors and is not intended for children. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 16.
Changes to this policy
If we change how we handle your data we will update this page and move the date at the top. If a change is significant, such as a new processor or a new purpose, we will email you rather than quietly editing the page.
